Educational Policy and Minorities: Pilot Project Ukraine *

The ECMI is represented in the working group convened by the Council of Europe (Directorate General IV) to investigate the current situation of minorities in Ukraine, and the requirements of education policies suited to the needs of minorities in this country, in order to assist the Ukrainian government in policy development. The Ministry of Education and Science is the main partner of this project in Ukraine, and the pilot project started with an international conference in Yalta.

The ECMI is particularly involved in the work of Task Force No. 4 on "Civil society relations and partnerships: ethnopolitical management", and advises on minority policy analysis, in the perspective of education management as well as using earlier work by the ECMI on Transcarpathian Ukraine (ECMI Report #4) and on minority language policies (ECMI Monograph No. 2).
