			<![CDATA[<p class="bodytext">Bei der letzen Landtags-Wahl in Schleswig-Holstein  als auch bei der Kommunal-Wahl in Dänemark 2009 wurde die politische Arbeit der Minderheiten auf die Probe gestellt - mit Erfolg.  Die politische Arbeit sowohl beim SSW (Südschleswigsche Wählerverband - Partei der dänischen Minderheit in Deutschland) als auch die der SP (Die Schleswigsche Partei - Partei der deutschen Minderheit in Dänemark) spiegelten sich wieder in guten Ergebnissen. <p class="bodytext"><br /><br />Ved det foregående landagsvalg i Slesvig-Holsten såvel som ved det sidste kommunalvalg i Danmark i 2009 blev mindretallenes politiske arbejde sat på en prøve - med succes. Det politiske arbejde af både SSW (sydslesvisk vælgerforening – parti af det danke mindretal i Tyskland) og SP (Det slesviske parti- parti af det tyske mindretal i Danmark) blev afspejlet i gode resultater. 		<title>ECMI-IQd Training Course on Minorities and Conflict</title>

			<![CDATA[<p class="bodytext">ECMI and the Initiative on Quiet Diplomacy have designed a new training course on minorities in conflict related contexts. The first of its kind will take place at <i><b>Flensborghus</b></i> (Danish Minority Cultural Centre) in Norderstrasse 76, Flensburg, Germany on <b>3-6 July</b> <b>2012</b>. The course responds to an increasing demand for specific courses on minorities in conflict situations, The intention is to strengthen practitioners' knowledge and capacities to address the dynamics of minority/ies-majority/ies relations in contexts of conflict. <i>Minorities and Conflict</i> seeks to respond to the needs of a variety of practitioners, including: Young diplomats, International organizations' officials, and NGO representatives. The organizers are pleased to announce that on Friday 6th July the inaugural training programme will be concluded by the &quot;HCNM 20 Years On&quot; Conference to be held at Flensborghus (Danish Minority Cultrual Centre). Organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM), the conference will benefit for the participation of Ambassador Knut Vollebæk, OSCE HCNM. 		<title>ECMI participates in Council of Europe /OSCE workshop on Inter-Institutional Co-operation</title>

			<![CDATA[<p class="bodytext">On 30 and 31 January 2012, ECMI Project Research Associate Mr Ugo Caruso will participate in a two-day workshop on the co-operation between Council of Europe (CoE) and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) convened by the CoE Directorate of Policy Planning in co-operation with the OSCE Secretariat on External Co-operation and hosted by the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law. Invited to participate together with other 15 selected experts, Mr Caruso will contribute to the on-going debate on inter-institutional modalities to enhance co-operation and complementarity between the two organisations. The workshop will be attended by representatives from the Council of Europe Directorate of Policy Planning, OSCE Secretariat on External Co-operation as well as experts on the subject matter. Mr. Caruso is a member of ECMI’s Conflict and Security Cluster. 			<![CDATA[<p class="bodytext">Congratulations from ECMI to Nils Muižnieks (Latvia), a member of the ECMI Advisory Council. Nils Muižnieks was elected yesterday as third Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights by the Organisation’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) at its plenary session in Strasbourg. Mr Muižnieks was elected for a non-renewable term of six years starting on 1 April 2012.From November 2002 to December 2004, Mr Muižnieks held the post of Special Assignments Minister for Social Integration Affairs in the Latvian Government. Since 2005 he has been the member for Latvia of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) and became its Chairman in January 2010. He is currently Director of the Advanced Social and Political Research Institute (ASPRI) at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Riga. The Office of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights is an independent, non-judicial institution within the Council of Europe; its function is to foster greater awareness of human rights, support national human rights institutions, identify shortcomings in law and practice concerning human rights and promote full enjoyment of human rights in all forty-seven member states of the Council of Europe.
