“Strengthening Links between Constituencies for Constructive Conflict Settlement in Transnistria”
Flensburg – The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) will host the seminar “Strengthening Links between Constituencies for Constructive Conflict Settlement in Transnistria” on July 20-23 2006 in Flensburg, Germany. This seminar brings together international experts on resolving ethno-territorial conflicts and officials from donor institutions together with representatives of the government and civil society in Moldova and Transnistria to discuss strategies for strengthening links between stakeholders in the conflict settlement process. The seminar will provide an opportunity to reflect on the progress in building a constituency for conflict settlement on principles of country reintegration, to exchange opinions and expectations about the role that Transnistrian civil society actors can play in facilitating the process of negotiation, and to draw on the knowledge of international experts and representatives of donor institutions who were engaged in efforts to strengthen peace constituencies in other conflict zones.
The project “Autonomy Mechanisms for Conflict Settlement in Transniestria and Post-Conflict Transformation in Gagauzia”, supported by the German Foreign Ministry, seeks to enhance the ability of the Moldovan authorities and Moldovan expert community to undertake the task of defining a special legal status for Transnistria and improving the functioning of the autonomy arrangement in Gagauzia.
