ECMI participates in 10th Conference of the European Sociological Association in Geneva

The international conference “Social Relations in Turbulent Times” organized by the European Sociological Association (www.europeansociology.org) took place in Geneva, Switzerland on 7-10 September, 2011. The event was organized and hosted by the University of Geneva.

The conference touched upon the whole spectrum of current sociological research and theoretical thought, focusing, among others, on sociology of culture, political and economic sociology, migration and populism in Europe. Moreover, the conference participants had a chance to attend lectures shedding light on the social consequences of the current economic crisis. Dr Joanna Jasiewicz, ECMI research associate and coordinator of the "Politics and Civil Society" cluster, presented an article on “Negotiating the past, mobilizing for the present: linkages between social memory and action” that examines the mnemonic conflicts between ethnic groups in Poland and the Polish majority.
