Language transmission and identity preservation among German Minorities in Russia

ECMI takes active part in this conference, supported by the Council of Europe program "National minorities in Russia: Language, Culture, Media and Civic Development". The event is also supported by the European Commission and the Ministry for Regional Development of The Russian Federation, the German Federal Ministry of Interior and the International Association of the German Culture.
One of the main focuses of the conference is the role of language in the preservation of identity for many German minorities living in Russia, in western and southern Siberia. The issue of new opportunities in language and culture preservation and promotion across the groups through internet portals and other electronic media will be discussed. Also the issue of motivation, cultural values and psycho-linguistic aspects are part of the agenda. Finally, a special workshop will be devoted to the institutional arrangement for the minorities and integration of the German language into regional cultural and public spheres.
