Reconstruction and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans
From 25-26 February 2011, Director Tove Malloy participated in an international conference titled, “Reconstruction, Reconciliation and European Integration of the Western Balkans” hosted by the Centre for South East European Studies at the University of Graz. The Conference welcomed international scholars, practitioners and politicians involved in the Western Balkans. Tove Malloy presented a paper on the conceptual framework of reconciliation in which she argued for a bottom-up approach to the application of reconciliation policies in post-conflict societies. The Conference was kicked off by an Internet live discussion with podcast hosted by the Medienzentrum Steiermark as part of their series Cafe Europe. The media event broadcasted live a roundtable discussion between Serbian lawyer and human rights activist Nataša Kandić, former spokesperson for the ITCY journalist Florence Hartmann, professor Florian Bieber of the Centre for South East European Studies University of Graz, and professor Joseph Marko, head of the Centre for South East European Studies, University of Graz and former Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
