Seminar on Reconciliation and Peacebuilding in Post-war societies
A European Challenge
In following its goal of enhancing the network of scholars working on the topic of reconciliation by sharing knowledge and experience, the Conflict and Security Cluster organized an open seminar that was held on 25 April 2012 at the headquarters of the ECMI. The content of the seminar dealt with the core issues of post-conflict societies seeking reconciliation.
Tove H. Malloy, Director of the ECMI, opened the seminar with welcoming words. The seminar proceeded with the first panel where Cillian McGrattan from University of West Scotland and Ignasi Torrent Oliva from the Conflict and Security Cluster from the ECMI covered the theoretical part of the concept of reconciliation. The presentations were followed by a discussion with the public. Then Máire Braniff from the University of Ulster and Lars Beruma from the ECMI Kosovo office presented the practical side of the implementation of reconciliation policies. The event concluded with presentations by Antonija Petricusic from University of Zagreb and Andreea Udrea from the Politics and Civil Society Cluster from the ECMI who reported on the legal frame that comprises the process of reconciliation. The organizers Ignasi Torrent Oliva and Ugo Caruso closed the panels raising the key aspects that had been presented by the speakers during the day. Finally, Tove Malloy expressed her sincere gratitude to the public, the speakers and the organizers as a mode of closure.
Both the attendants to the seminar as well as the speakers expressed their enthusiasm and satisfaction at the end of the conference. The papers presented here will be published in a future issue of JEMIE.
