Dilek Kurban (Turkey) -- January - April 2005
Visiting Research Associate / Columbia Human Rights Fellow at ECMI - Received a BA in Political Science and International Relations from Bogazici University in Turkey. In 1999, Dilek Kurban completed a Master’s degree in International Affairs at Columbia University, where she concentrated on human rights and international law. Upon graduation, she worked for two years as an Associate Political Affairs Officer at the United Nations Department of Political Affairs. In 2001, she enrolled at Columbia Law School, completing her Juris Doctor degree in May 2004. Also in 2004, Ms Kurban was awarded the Columbia Human Rights Fellowship to work on minority rights in Turkey. Her research interests include international human rights law, European Union law, European human rights law, minority rights, and human rights and democratization in Turkey.
Emilie Deudon (France) -- September - December 2002
Visiting Research Associate. Graduated from the University of Grenoble where she studied international politics and administration, and foreign languages. European studies programme at the University of Limerick (Ireland). Work experience in the Irish Section of Amnesty International. She is also involved in the association Drugi Most which is working for the reconciliation of the different ethnic communities in the former Yugoslavia through the organization of intercultural events.
Frank Selbmann (Germany) -- October 2001 - October 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Studied Law at the University of Leipzig; Studies at the German Postgraduate-School of Administrative Sciences in Speyer; former Law Clerk in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He has recently submitted a PhD thesis on the definition of genocide in international law. Support of several NGOs, e.g. the Committee for an Effective International Criminal Law. Currently, he is pursuing research towards the ECMI project "Advancing the Interpretation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities through State Practice".
Martina Spernbauer (Austria) -- August - September 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Graduated from Law School of the University of Vienna. Studied International Public Law and European Law at the Université de Bourgogne during 2000/2001 where she also concluded her diploma thesis entitled "Les Peuples autochtones en droit international". Work experience in Casablanca and Brussels. Participation in a humanitarian project in Peru. Preparing a PhD about ethnic minorities and the eastward enlargement of the EU.
Leonie Renwrantz (Germany) -- July - September 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Studies German Law at the University of Hamburg, Germany, since 1998. In 2000/2001, she stayed in Switzerland to study international, Swiss and German Law at the Université de Lausanne. Specialisation in public international law and European law.
Camille Monteux (France) -- April 2001 - June 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Studied International Relations at the University of Geneva and holds an MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London). Participated in the 38th UN Graduate Study program, and has worked for different international organizations, which included fieldwork in Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina for the OSCE as election monitor. Aims to pursue research on the Balkan region and more particularly on the development of the legal status of Kosovo.
Hannah McGlue (United Kingdom) -- January - March 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Completed an LLM Masters in International Law at the University of Nottingham, specializing in European and International Human Rights Law and International Minorities Law. Holds a BA in Modern Languages from Oxford University. Currently, pursuing both research on Macedonia and towards the ECMI project "Advancing the Interpretation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities through State Practice".
Carmen Kettley (Romania) -- January - March 2002
Visiting Research Associate - Studied Law at the University of Bucharest. Conducted research and teaching at the Bucharest Institute of Legal Sciences and the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. In addition, she worked as a Research Director of the Foundation for Democratic Change in Bucharest and as a Global Security Fellow at the Faculty for Social and Political Sciences, University of Cambridge. At present, she is conducting PhD research at the Centre of International Studies, University of Cambrigde. Her areas of work include power-sharing arrangements and the political participation of ethnic minorities in Central and Eastern Europe.
