Current interns

Burcak ArikanBurcak Arikan (Turkey)
I am Burcak Arikan from Turkey. I hold a masters degree in Political Sociology from London School of Economics, UK. I am currently pursuing my second masters degree in International Relations from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. I am interested in underrepresented minorities, multiculturalism debate, transnational migration and immigrant rights. At ECMI, I am conducting a research on the rights and representation of Roma people and Turkish minority in Europe under the pillar of Language and Cultural Diversity, working with Ewa Chylinski.

Irina BykovaIrina Bykova (Russia)
My name is Irina Bykova and I come from Russia but I have been in Germany for 1 year as a DAAD scholarship holder to study Master in European Studies in the University of Flensburg. My educational and professional background ranges from translation and intercultural communication studies to international project management. Before coming to Germany I studied in Finland and Norway and worked in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Russia. Besides Russian, I speak English, German and have basic knowledge of Danish and Norwegian languages.
In ECMI I do an internship in the sphere of Political Participation. I make a research on the minority representation in the Russian Parliament. I collect necessary data and help to improve a research scheme on minority political participation that gives a good opportunity to develop my research skills necessary for my future master thesis and work in general.

Stavroula Christodouloulaki Stavroula Christodoulaki (Greece)

My name is Stavroula Christodouloulaki and I was born in Crete, in Greece, on 3rd of July 1983.
I hold a bachelor degree in Political Science and History from Panteio University of Athens and as I was working as an intern in the National Library of Greece I specialized in contemporary diplomatic Greek history. Currently, I am studying ‘European Studies’, which is a joint master programm of University of Flensburg and University of Southern Denmark. In general, my interests are the political and electoral systems and the political representation of minorities as well. In ECMI, I have started an internship in the sphere of Political Participation. In specific, my task is collecting data and analysing the electoral systems in post-communist countries focused on the political representation of minorities under different electoral systems.

Elena CebanElena Ceban (Republic of Moldova)

Elena Ceban comes from the Republic of Moldova, but the last 9 years she has been living in Romania. She is currently enrolled at the University of Flensburg in 'European Studies' Master Program. In 2008 graduated the Faculty of Economics in Cluj Napoca, specialization - Accounting. Presently she is also enrolled in the ECMI intern program where she works with Dr. Oleh Protsyk in the field "Political Participation" in Romania.

Deniz DagDeniz Dag (Turkey)

My name is Deniz Dag. I was born in Burdur, in Turkey on 08.03.1986. I hold a bachelor degree in International Relations from Hacettepe University, ANKARA. Currently, I am pursuing my masters in European Studies, a joint program of Southern University of Denmark and Univerisity of Flensburg. My study interests are minority rights, ethnic diversity, and border region studies.
Now, I am making an internship under the field of ‘Political Participation’ and working with Dr. Oleh Protsyk. My task is to make a content analysis on electoral manifestos of Turkish political parties.

Ilona FilimonovaIlona Filimonova (Russia)

My name is Ilona Filimonova and I come from Russia. My academic background is in Political Science, with a BA degree from Moscow University – Higher School of Economics. Now I am completing a double Master degree in Euroculture (European Studies) from University of Groningen, Netherlands and Uppsala University, Sweden. Currently I am doing an internship in ECMI, working with Political Participation and Language & Culture Diversity Programmes. In the Language and Culture Diversity Programme I focus on minority languages in Russia, reviewing territorial and non-territorial minorities. For the project on Political Participation I collect and construct the database on parliamentary representation in the Russian Federation.

George HillGeorge Hill (England )

My name is George Hill and I have recently graduated from Coventry University, England with an International Relations and Politics BA Honours degree.
Previous to my internship at the ECMI I lived and worked in Berlin for a short while, to further my German language skills. Since arriving at the centre in Flensburg, my main tasks have been to update, research and format data relating to the Bosnia and Herzegovinian entry for the Ethnopolitical map, as well as the Abkhazian entry, all under the supervision of William McKinney.

Zorana KataranovskiZorana Kataranovski

My name is Zorana Kataranovski. I was born on 16 December 1983 in Belgrade, Serbia. I hold a Bachelor degree in Dutch language and literature of the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, Serbia. In 2007 I have started a Master’s Programme Theory of Culture at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Belgrade. In 2008 I have interrupted this course to pursue the Master’s Programme Euroculture at the Rijks University in Groningen, the Netherlands and Georg-August University in Göttingen, Germany.
I am currently doing an internship at the ECMI on two projects, the Ethno-political Map and Language and Culture Diversity. My tasks are to research, update and format documents for Serbia entry of the Ethnopolitical Map of Europe. For the project Language and Culture Diversity I am exploring the concrete examples of the representation of minority cultures as supported by the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and by state governments. I am looking at how this translates to real-life situations of the European countries that have signed and ratified the ECRML. My other tasks are to collect publication resources on minorities and culture and to update the website with resources.
