ECMI participates in 18th Conference of Europeanists in Barcelona

The international conference “The Causes, Consequences and Meaning of Transnationalization” organized by the Council of European Studies at Columbia University (http://www.ces.columbia.edu/about/aboutces.html) took place in Barcelona, Spain on 20-22 June, 2011. The event was co-organized and hosted by Instituto Barcelona de Estudios Internacionales and University Ramón Llull.

The conference’s goal was to reflect upon transnational structures and their impact on European societies. Moreover, the conference offered an opportunity to discuss the patterns and consequences of collective actors’ transnational mobilization (see: http://www.ces.columbia.edu/conf/CESConference_WebAccessible.pdf).

Dr Joanna Jasiewicz, ECMI junior research associate and coordinator of the Politics and Civil Society cluster, presented an article on “Empowerment through transnational ties? Cross-national comparison of ethnic minority groups’ transnational involvement and political participation on the national ground” that explores the complex links between ethnic groups’ transnational involvement and their activism at the nation-state level.

Date: 20-22 June, 2011

Venue: Instituto Barcelona de Estudios Internacionales and University Ramón Llull, Barcelona, Spain
