ECMI participates in International Conference on Civil Society in Europe and Russia

The international conference “Civil Society and NGOs in Europe and Russia: Responding to New Challenges and Opportunities” organized by the Center for German and European Studies, St. Petersburg State University, in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation and with the Social Forum prepared by the Center for NGOs Development (CRNO) took place in St. Petersburg, Russia, on November 12-14, 2010.

The conference’s goal was to reflect the new challenges that NGOs are facing in the contemporary world both in Russia and European countries. The event gathered prominent and early career researchers from various EU countries and Russia (see further here – in Russian).

Dr Joanna Jasiewicz, ECMI Junior Research Associate, presented an article on “New Institutionalism, Cultural Sociology, and Transnational Networks Perspective: Complementary Approaches to Study the Mobilization of Ethnic Organizations in Poland” that explores distinct theoretical perspectives useful to examine ethnic agency.
