Experts on Social Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities visiting the Border Region

FLENSBURG - A group of sociologists and economist currently visiting the European Centre for Minority Issues in conjunction with the Second Workshop on the Social Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities will be visiting the German-Danish Border Region on Thursday 13th July. The group will be hosted by the national minorities of the region to learn more about the German and Danish minorities respectively and about the successful border cooperation that may serve as a model for other regions where problems regarding minority inclusion prevail. The Director of the Danish Institute of Border Region Studies, Dr. Jørgen Kühl, will start off the day with a presentation of his institute. The tour will continue in Flensburg with visits to the Danish Minority Political Organisation in Germany/Schleswig-Holstein, Sydslesvigsk Forening (SSF), and to the Danish Minority newspaper ’Flensborg Avis’. The next stop will be at the Nordfriisk Instituut, a Frisian Minority Institution in Bredstedt. After a lunch generously hosted by the Frisian minority, the study tour will be rounded off on the other side of the border where the group of 15 people will be briefed on the German Minority in Denmark at the Bund Deutscher Nordschleswiger (BDN) and at the German Minority newspaper ‘Nordschleswiger’.
