Elmira Muratova's Participation at the "Societies on the Move" Conference

2024-09-16

From 1-6 September, 2024, Elmira Muratova took part in the international conference Societies on the Move: Migration, Mobility, and Displacement in Eastern Europe, held in Ascona, Switzerland. Organized by the Center for Eastern European Studies (CEES) at the University of Zurich, the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe (GCE) at the University of St. Gallen, and the Ukrainian Research in Switzerland (URIS) initiative at the University of Basel, the conference examined migration and mobility across Eastern Europe, with a special focus on post-socialist and post-Soviet states.

Elmira contributed to the panel on Displacement in Ukraine, where she presented her research on displaced Crimean Tatars. Her talk explored key issues such as identity, belonging, and cultural preservation among Crimean Tatars displaced following Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. Additionally, she participated in a roundtable discussion on War, Atrocities, and Reconciliation, sharing her insights on the post-Soviet repatriation of Crimean Tatars and the challenges of reconciliation in post-war Ukraine.
