Public statement

The European Centre for Minority Issues expresses public support for the call by the Council of Europe’s Safety of Journalists Platform for the Government of Serbia to release information about the expulsion of Massimo Moratti from Serbia.

As an organization with years of experience working on minority issues in Serbia together with Mr. Moratti, we are dismayed at this development and hope that the relevant circumstances will be quickly rectified.

During our collaboration with Mr. Moratti together with the Serbian Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, we developed the utmost respect for Mr. Moratti’s expertise and professionalism.

We believe that Mr. Moratti’s expulsion from Serbia reflects negatively on the country’s commitment to human rights, media freedom and other values committed to as part of EU accession.

We express solidarity with Mr. Moratti and his family during this difficult time.
