ECMI Library
The ECMI Library is an independent collection of books, journals, and grey literature of more than 3,000 items covering many aspects of minority issues. The highly specialized collection offers public access to a variety of materials in more than twenty languages on interethnic relations, language and cultural diversity issues and ethnic conflict in Europe.
The Library includes a useful reference section and a considerable number of published and unpublished reports, and is especially strong in the area of minority protection with regards to international law. The ECMI Library is also unique in that it includes an ever-growing number of annual reports of Ombudsman offices around the world, which provide insight into the human rights situation in many countries. Current periodical and newspaper subscriptions reflect the multidisciplinary nature of ECMI research, and reference services are provided both in-house and for the general public.

| Description | During the nineteenth century the assimilation of the Irish language community into the English-speaking world appeared to have entered its final phase. While Irish was spoken by the overwhelming majority of the people in Ireland three centuries earlier, at the beginning of the twentieith century only 18 per cent of the population was returned as Irish-speaking in the Census of Population. Yet despite the well-established dynamic of decline, the newly independent Irish state in 1922 launched a broad strategy to re-establish Irish as a national language, to maintain it where it was then spoken, and to extend its use elsewhere. This book is about that policy and its impact over the subsequent seventy years. The focus of the book is the evolving structure of bilingualism in Ireland, but it is more centrally concerned with the process of bilingual reproductionthat is, how bilingualism is produced within each generation and how it is reproduced across generations. |

Materials from the ECMI Library may not be loaned out, but can be consulted in the Danish library on the following days:
