ECMI Library
The ECMI Library is an independent collection of books, journals, and grey literature of more than 3,000 items covering many aspects of minority issues. The highly specialized collection offers public access to a variety of materials in more than twenty languages on interethnic relations, language and cultural diversity issues and ethnic conflict in Europe.
The Library includes a useful reference section and a considerable number of published and unpublished reports, and is especially strong in the area of minority protection with regards to international law. The ECMI Library is also unique in that it includes an ever-growing number of annual reports of Ombudsman offices around the world, which provide insight into the human rights situation in many countries. Current periodical and newspaper subscriptions reflect the multidisciplinary nature of ECMI research, and reference services are provided both in-house and for the general public.

| Description | This monograph is a contribution to the long-term discussion on the problem of group rights; primarily the right of a group of people to self-determination. Although the roots of this notion can be traced back to the French and American revolutions of the late eighteenth century, it emerged in in its modern form only in the last ninety years. This idea has developed into a norm of international law, mentioned in the United Nations Charter and enshrined in the 1966 UN covenants on human rights. Nevertheless, the right to self-determination has recently emerged again as a debatable issue, with attempts to implement it often resulting in war. Such conflicts are mainly rooted in the imperfect reaction of the international community, which has no precise guidelines for such situations. Case studies on the Russian Federation, Georgia, the Crimea, Nagorno-Karabagh, and Eritrea are included. The author was a member of the Russian Federation's State Duma, one of the founders of the Democratic Russia party, and in 1996 the only woman from any party nominated to run for president of Russia. She published extensively on anthropological theory, cross-cultural studies, and Caucasian anthropology. |

Materials from the ECMI Library may not be loaned out, but can be consulted in the Danish library on the following days:
