Project timeframe: 2025-2027
Project funder: The Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Project partners: Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), Centre Marc Bloch (CMB)
Project budget: € 40,000
Description
In 2024, the ECMI successfully secured funding for KoDaNetOst, a research initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving access to social science and humanities data in Eastern Europe. As part of its project preparation efforts, the ECMI, in partnership with the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) and the Centre Marc Bloch (CMB), developed a comprehensive proposal that was approved by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project formally commenced in 2025, engaging research institutions, universities, and think tanks to facilitate data sharing and methodological exchange.
The project addresses key challenges in data collection, accessibility, and legal frameworks by fostering cooperation among institutions in Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and the EU. With ten associated partners spanning Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and beyond, KoDaNetOst aims to create a sustainable, collaborative platform that enhances visibility, professionalization, and knowledge transfer in research methodologies and ethical standards.
As a key partner, the ECMI plays an active role in facilitating knowledge transfer and institutional collaboration. The project develops a publicly accessible platform to centralize research data resources and establish a long-term strategy for institutionalized cooperation.
